Compress an image to 50 KB

Pick your photo below and download a JPEG just under 50 KB, keeping as much quality as the limit allows. It runs in this tab, so your photo is never uploaded.

    Who asks for 50 KB

50 KB is a common ceiling for the passport-style photo on recruitment forms. IBPS and SBI ask for the photo, and the left thumb impression, between 20 and 50 KB. Railway (RRB) forms ask for a signature between 30 and 49 KB, so there use Custom and type 49.

Many state recruitment, university and admission portals also cap photos at 50 KB, but limits vary from form to form and change between years. Use the number printed in your notice. Our guide to exam photo and signature sizes collects the official figures with links to each notice.

What to expect at 50 KB

For a photo of a face, 50 KB is comfortable. A head-and-shoulders photo a few hundred pixels wide fits at high JPEG quality, with no visible blocks. If you start from a full-size phone photo, the tool first lowers the quality and only then reduces the pixels, so the face stays clear.

50 KB is tight for a scanned document page. An A4 page has a lot of fine text, and at 50 KB small print can blur. For a certificate or marksheet, use 100 KB or 200 KB if the form allows it, or crop to the part that is asked for.

    Tips

    • Mind the minimum. A 20 to 50 KB range means a 15 KB file is rejected too. This page only caps the size; Exam photo resizer lands it between both numbers at the right pixel size.
    • Use a plain, light background. A white wall costs almost nothing; a patterned curtain uses KB that your face needs.
    • Pixel size and KB are separate checks. If the form gives pixels, such as 200 × 230, set them with Resize image or Crop image first, then compress here.
    • iPhone photos work. HEIC files are read in the browser and saved as JPG, which is what most forms accept.

Your images stay on your device

Most online compressors upload your photo to their servers. Here, every image is decoded and saved as a smaller JPEG inside this browser tab, using your browser’s own image tools. That matters when it’s your passport photo, your signature, or a scan of your Aadhaar, PAN card or marksheet.

The page’s security policy tells your browser to block uploads, so your images can’t leave your device even by accident. You can check: open your browser’s developer tools, watch the Network tab, and compress a photo. How InTheTab works

    Questions

How do I compress a photo to 50 KB?

Pick the photo above with 50 KB selected. The page saves a JPEG just under 50 KB at the highest quality that fits. Download it and upload that file to the form.

My form wants a photo between 20 KB and 50 KB. What should I use?

Use Exam photo resizer, which takes both a minimum and a maximum and the pixel size. Compressing here at 50 KB also works when the photo comes out above 20 KB, which it usually does for a full-size phone photo.

What size in pixels is a 50 KB photo?

There is no fixed answer: KB depends on the pixels and on how much detail the photo has. A plain-background passport-style photo of a few hundred pixels fits easily. If the form gives pixel dimensions, use those.

Can I compress a photo to 50 KB on my phone?

Yes. This page works in the browser on Android and iPhone. Pick the photo from your gallery and download the smaller copy. Nothing is installed and the photo is not uploaded.
