Who asks for 200 KB
The NTA bulletins for NEET (UG) and JEE Main allow a passport-size photo of 10 to 200 KB. UPSC accepts photos from 20 to 300 KB, so a 200 KB file is within range there too. Beyond exams, 200 KB is a common cap for document uploads: an address proof, an ID card scan, a bank passbook page.
Portals change their limits between years and sometimes differ by field, so check the number on the form you are filling. Our guide to exam photo and signature sizes links to each official notice.
What to expect at 200 KB
200 KB is a generous limit. The tool lowers the JPEG quality first and reduces the pixels only if that is not enough. A full-size phone photo usually needs some of both, but at 200 KB it still has well over a thousand pixels across, so faces and printed text stay sharp on screen.
If your image is already under 200 KB, you can upload it as it is. Compressing it again would not make it look better.
Tips
- Check for a minimum. NTA's photo range starts at 10 KB and UPSC's at 20 KB. A 200 KB target never comes out that small, but a tiny cropped image could.
- Pixels may be checked separately. UPSC, for instance, sets a pixel range as well as a KB range. Resize with Resize image if the form gives one.
- One file per field. If the form has separate uploads for a photo and a document, compress each separately; you can pick several images at once and download them as a ZIP.
- For a multi-page document that must be one PDF, use Compress PDF to 200 KB instead.
Your images stay on your device
Most online compressors upload your photo to their servers. Here, every image is decoded and saved as a smaller JPEG inside this browser tab, using your browser’s own image tools. That matters when it’s your passport photo, your signature, or a scan of your Aadhaar, PAN card or marksheet.
The page’s security policy tells your browser to block uploads, so your images can’t leave your device even by accident. You can check: open your browser’s developer tools, watch the Network tab, and compress a photo. How InTheTab works
You’ll also see a few small requests to Google Analytics. That’s our visit counter, and it never receives your files. Privacy policy
Questions
How do I compress an image to 200 KB?
Pick the image above with 200 KB selected. The page saves a JPEG just under 200 KB at the highest quality that fits. Download it and upload that file.
How do I reduce a 2 MB photo to 200 KB?
Pick it here with 200 KB selected. The tool lowers the JPEG quality first, then the pixels only as far as needed, so the photo still looks sharp on screen.
Will compressing to 200 KB reduce the quality?
Slightly, but at 200 KB the difference is rarely visible on screen. The tool keeps the highest quality that fits and only reduces the pixels when quality alone is not enough.
Can I compress several images to 200 KB at once?
Yes. Select all of them; each is compressed to under 200 KB, and with two or more you can download them as one ZIP file.
