Who asks for 100 KB
100 KB often appears on forms that want a scanned document rather than a face: a caste or income certificate, a marksheet, a fee receipt, a handwritten declaration. IBPS and SBI, for example, ask for the handwritten declaration between 50 and 100 KB. The NTA (NEET UG and JEE Main) bulletins allow a signature of up to 100 KB.
Scholarship portals and university admission forms frequently use limits around 100 KB for each upload, but the exact number varies by portal, by field and by year. Always use the limit printed next to the upload button.
What to expect at 100 KB
For a photo, 100 KB is plenty: it stays large and sharp. For a one-page scan it is usually enough to keep ordinary printed text readable, as long as the scan itself is clean. A crumpled page photographed at an angle in dim light has shadows and grain, and that noise uses up the KB.
The tool keeps the full width and lowers JPEG quality first. Only if that is not enough does it reduce the pixels. Open the result and zoom in on the smallest text, such as a roll number or a date, before you upload.
Tips for documents
- Photograph flat, in daylight. Lay the page on a dark table, hold the phone straight above it and avoid your own shadow.
- Crop to the paper. Use Crop image to cut away the table. Background is detail the file has to store.
- Form wants a PDF? Turn the JPEG into a PDF with JPG to PDF, or shrink an existing PDF with Compress PDF to 100 KB.
- Several pages? Pick them all at once: each is compressed to under 100 KB, and you can download them as one ZIP.
Your images stay on your device
Most online compressors upload your photo to their servers. Here, every image is decoded and saved as a smaller JPEG inside this browser tab, using your browser’s own image tools. That matters when it’s your passport photo, your signature, or a scan of your Aadhaar, PAN card or marksheet.
The page’s security policy tells your browser to block uploads, so your images can’t leave your device even by accident. You can check: open your browser’s developer tools, watch the Network tab, and compress a photo. How InTheTab works
You’ll also see a few small requests to Google Analytics. That’s our visit counter, and it never receives your files. Privacy policy
Questions
How do I compress an image to 100 KB?
Pick the image above with 100 KB selected. The page saves a JPEG just under 100 KB at the highest quality that fits, and you download it. Nothing is uploaded.
How do I reduce a scanned certificate to 100 KB without losing the text?
Start from a clean, flat, well-lit photo or scan, crop it to the paper, then compress here. Fine print stays readable far better from a clean scan than from a dark, grainy photo squeezed to the same size.
Can I make an image exactly 100 KB?
Forms check that a file is not over the limit, so the tool aims just under 100 KB. It uses 100,000 bytes, the stricter reading, so it passes forms that count 1 KB as 1,000 or as 1,024 bytes.
The form asks for a PDF under 100 KB, not a JPG. What do I do?
Use Compress PDF with the 100 KB target. If you only have photos of the pages, compress them here, then put them into one PDF with JPG to PDF.
