Photo and Signature Size for SSC, UPSC, IBPS and NEET Forms

Each recruiting body sets its own limits. As of October 2026, IBPS asks for a 20–50 KB photo and a 10–20 KB signature, SSC a 10–20 KB signature with a live photo, UPSC 20–300 KB files with a live photo, and NEET a 10–200 KB photo and 10–100 KB signature. Crop and resize your photo to the exact pixels, then check it lands inside both the minimum and maximum KB.

Sizes from the official notices

These figures are copied from the latest notices we could find as of October 2026. Rules change between exams and years, so always check the notice for the exam you are applying to. If it differs from this table, the notice wins.

How to get your photo and signature to the right size

  1. Take a good photo first. Stand against a plain white or light wall in daylight, face the camera, ears visible, no cap or dark glasses. A phone is fine. A clean background also makes the file smaller.
  2. Sign on white paper in black ink (UPSC wants three signatures one below the other; IBPS doesn’t accept signatures in capital letters). Photograph it straight from above in good light.
  3. Open Exam photo resizer and pick the preset for your exam. It crops the photo to the exact pixel size and saves it as a JPEG between the minimum and maximum KB.
  4. Adjust the crop so your face fills most of the frame. NEET, for example, wants the face to cover 80% of the photo.
  5. Download and check the size in KB, then upload. Keep the files in one folder; you will need them again for the next form.

If your exam isn’t in the presets, crop with Crop image, set the pixel width in Resize image, and bring the file under the KB limit with Compress image. Our guide on compressing a photo to 20 KB or 50 KB covers that step in detail.

Questions

What is the photo and signature size for SSC?

SSC no longer takes an uploaded photo: the application captures a live photo with your webcam or phone camera. The signature is uploaded as a JPEG of 10 to 20 KB, about 6.0 cm wide and 2.0 cm high, according to SSC’s Stenographer 2026 notice. Check the notice for your exam.

What is the photo and signature size for IBPS and bank exams?

IBPS guidelines ask for a JPEG photo of 200 × 230 pixels (preferred) between 20 and 50 KB, and a signature of 140 × 60 pixels (preferred) between 10 and 20 KB. A left thumb impression (20 to 50 KB) and a handwritten declaration (50 to 100 KB) are also uploaded, plus a live photo.

Why does the form say my photo is too small?

Most portals set a minimum size as well as a maximum, for example 20 KB for an IBPS photo. A heavily compressed file can fall below it. Save it again at a higher quality, or with slightly larger pixel dimensions, until it lands inside the range.

Do I need to upload a photo for an Indian passport?

No, not for an online Passport Seva application. The Ministry of External Affairs says your photograph and biometrics are taken at the Passport Seva Kendra, and a photograph is not required when you visit.
