InTheTab Files stay on your device

Video to MP3 without uploading

Open a video or audio file, drag the sliders to the part you want, and save it as an MP3. It’s converted in this tab, so your file is never uploaded. Works best with files under about 30 minutes.

How to convert a video to MP3

  1. Open your file. Pick a video (MP4, MOV, WebM) or an audio file (M4A, MP3, WAV). The sound track is read in this tab and drawn as a waveform.
  2. Choose the part you want. Drag Start and End to cut out a section, in steps of a tenth of a second. Play selection lets you check it first. Leave them at the ends to keep everything.
  3. Save the MP3. Pick a quality and click Save MP3. You can listen to the result on the page before you download it.

Good to know

  • Your browser does the decoding. MP4, MOV, WebM, M4A, MP3 and WAV usually work. Whether a given file opens depends on its audio codec and your browser; if one won’t open, try another browser.
  • It doubles as an MP3 cutter. Open an MP3, trim the start and end, and save. The result is a new MP3, re-encoded at the quality you choose.
  • Three quality levels. 128 kbps is fine for speech and podcasts, 192 kbps for music, and 320 kbps is the highest MP3 allows.
  • Stereo stays stereo. Mono files stay mono. Surround sound keeps only its first two channels.
  • Long files need memory. The whole sound track is held in memory while you work, so very long videos can be slow or fail on phones. Under about 30 minutes works best.

Your files stay on your device

Most online converters upload your video to their servers first. Here, the sound is read by your browser’s own decoder and encoded to MP3 inside this tab, so a recorded meeting, a voice note or a family video never leaves your computer or phone.

The page’s security policy tells your browser to block uploads, so your files can’t leave your device even by accident. You can check: open your browser’s developer tools, watch the Network tab, and convert a file. How InTheTab works

You’ll also see a few small requests to Google Analytics. That’s our visit counter, and it never receives your files. Privacy policy

Questions

How do I convert MP4 to MP3?

Open the MP4 above, leave Start and End at the ends, choose a quality and click Save MP3. Then use Download MP3 to save the file.

Can I extract just part of the audio from a video?

Yes. Move Start and End to the section you want, check it with Play selection, then save. Only that part goes into the MP3.

Is there a file size limit?

There’s no fixed limit, since nothing is uploaded. The limit is your device’s memory: files under about 30 minutes work best, and very long ones may fail on phones.

Do I need to install anything or sign up?

No. It runs in any modern browser on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android or iPhone. It’s free, with no sign-up and no watermark.
