Good to know
- Version 4, random. Each one is made with the browser’s
crypto.randomUUID(), which uses a cryptographically secure random source. 122 of the 128 bits are random. - Standard format. Lowercase hex with hyphens, like
3f2b8c1e-9d4a-4e7b-a6c0-5f1d2e3a4b6c. No braces. - Out-of-range counts are adjusted. Above 1,000 you get 1,000. Zero, blank or invalid gives one. Decimals are rounded down.
- Nothing is stored. The list isn’t saved anywhere, so copy it before you leave the page.
Your UUIDs are made on your device
A UUID you use as a database key, API key id or invite link shouldn’t come from a server that could log it. Here, every UUID is generated inside this browser tab, and no one else ever sees it.
The page’s security policy tells your browser to block uploads, so nothing can leave your device even by accident. You can check: open your browser’s developer tools, watch the Network tab, and press Generate. How InTheTab works
You’ll also see a few small requests to Google Analytics. That’s our visit counter, and it never receives your files. Privacy policy
Questions
Is a GUID the same as a UUID?
Yes. GUID is Microsoft’s name for the same 128-bit format. These work anywhere a GUID is expected. Some Windows tools show GUIDs in uppercase or inside braces; add those yourself if a tool needs them.
Can two UUIDs ever be the same?
In theory, yes. In practice, no: with 122 random bits you would need to generate billions per second for many years before a duplicate became likely.
Can I use these as secret tokens?
They come from a secure random source, but a UUID is meant to be an identifier, not a secret. For passwords or API secrets, use something built for that purpose.
Do I need to install anything or sign up?
No. It runs in any modern browser on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android or iPhone. It’s free and there’s no sign-up.
